Kids MiraclePodcast 1.5 - What Type of Daily Schedule Do The Kids Have

Written by Tomoni Martine
Children feel more confident and secure if the activities are familiar. It makes them feel control of their environment if the schedule is predictable.

Consistency in schedule helps in:

  • Feeling safe and comfortable
  • Familiarity with activities
  • Learning and engaging

Today, podcast digital marketing expert Jack Hakimian of Global Presence sits down with Day Espinal of Kids Miracle Steps in the fifth episode of the first podcast to discuss the importance of staying on schedule.

Tune in and listen to this podcast to know more about what we do and who we serve.

Staying on schedule

“The schedule is not like, “Man, this is the schedule. You have to go buy it!” Day Espinal, the Operations Director of Kids Miracle Steps, said during the podcast interview.

Staying on schedule helps kids follow routines or demonstrate independence while they grow. But Kids Miracle Steps understands that not every child is the same.

“We have a lot of different types of children. There are some children that are more behavioral, you know, they have medical needs. But they also have behavioral needs,” Day added.

For example, Day cannot impose a 9 o’clock schedule for potty, as everyone has unique needs.

Kids Miracle Steps follow a schedule and keep everything as organized as possible. We believe that children need consistency, but they leave room for flexibility. Some children start their day with medication or therapy for two to three hours following nap time. At the same time, others do not follow this type of routine. By the afternoon, they follow a school-based play provided by the volunteers from Broward County School and the activities depend on the child’s age level.

Tips on following schedules

Keep it simple. Engage with parents and ask what their child’s interests are. You don’t have to add anything new! You can break down these interests into tasks to form a routine.

You can also let the children do it independently, suppose they do an activity with minimal guidance. It is also helpful to discuss with your child the plan or activities for the day, so they will be informed about what will happen.

It does not have to be complicated. Leave room for flexibility!
