What Can A Pediatric Physical Therapist Do for Your Child?

Written by

Physical therapies are not just for athletes or adults. Sometimes, children and babies need them too! And this is where a pediatric physical therapist can help.

Pediatric physical therapists (PTs) work with children and their families to help each child in reaching their maximum potential to promote active cooperation at home, school, and in their communities. These therapists have expertise in movement, motor development, and strength, and endurance.

If your child needs physical therapy, you may want to work with our pediatric physical therapist (PT) with our wide range of services, including physical therapy. Learn more about pediatric physical therapists and how they can help your child get back on track.

About Kids Miracle Steps

Kids Miracle Steps is a dedicated medical daycare for children with special needs. We provide skilled nursing services for the medically fragile, medically complex, and technology-dependent pediatric population of infants up to 21 years of age. Our services include physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapies. We also offer transportation services from picking up and dropping off children for the parents’ convenience.

Our centers are open 12 hours a day from Mondays to Saturdays. Our goal is to provide the highest level of care to increase the quality of life for our parents and children. What we are proud of is that our program is 40% to 50% less expensive than home nursing care, benefiting families with limited insurance benefits.

What is a pediatric physical therapist?

Children can improve their movement, strength, flexibility and movement patterns through pediatric physical therapists. The aim is to help children to move their bodies as much as possible as they want.

What happens during a physical therapy session?

Most of the sessions include engaging kids with fun, aging, motivated and happy games and activities. Pediatric physical therapists help improve gross motor skills by working, such as the balance on a beam or standing on a foot. They can also suggest activities to do with your child at home in case, not in the centers.

Where can your child receive pediatric physical therapy?

In environments such as home, kindergarten, preschool, schools, worksites, recreation centers, and other community environments pediatric physical therapies can be provided. In hospitals and clinics, children and family members may also have contact with pediatric physical therapists for medical purposes, specialized health care, or in the course of acute treatment.

Is my child qualified for physical therapy?

On your initial visit, your child's strength, development and how easily they stand, walk and perform work properly to determine if the time has elapsed, is checked by a pediatric physical therapist. If the delay exists, the degree and potential cause of the delay can also be determined. From here you and your child will work with a pediatric physical therapist to determine a treatment plan.

Pediatric physical therapists can help with issues like recovering from injuries, delays in child development, not hitting the proper milestones appropriate for their age, genetic disorders like down syndrome, muscle weakness, and poor coordination.

You must speak to the health care professional in case you have concerns about the development of your child and think they may benefit from physical therapy.

The parents’ role

Parents and families play the main role in the development of their children. The pediatric physical therapist works with the family to support the development and implementation of a program of individual intervention. Families are supported by coordination of services, advocacy, and support in order to improve their child's development.

The support process for kids and families begins with an interview or conversation in order to identify the needs of the child and the concerns of the family and continues to examine and assess the child within the framework of his or her daily activities.

Are pediatric physical therapists licensed?

Pediatric physical therapists have a specific interest and desire to work with children and families, giving children with many different conditions and strengths their unique talents and professional knowledge. Physical therapists and assistants to physical therapists must have diplomas in accredited education programs and conform to state licensing and practice directives. In order to recognize an individual with advanced knowledge and skills, further credentials related to specifications in contents, skills, or other academic degrees may be used.
